stephen-king-doctor-sleep-movieThere are currently so many different Stephen King properties in some sort of active development in hollywood at the moment spanning all available methods of media its hard to keep up with all the different news.
Hulu has its TV series 11.22.63 based on the King novel of the same name, while movies such as The Dark Tower, It, and Revival – even rumblings over the years about progress being made on a prequel movie to King’s The Shining (titled Overlook Hotel) – though that project is not based on any King original novel., but may be possibly taking some liberties from the rare, little know, King prologue titled “before the play” which was officially excised from the original manuscript.
Shinning, which itself has had two very different adaptions by hollywood, first the classic film starring Jack Nicholson and directed by master filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and the 1997 television miniseries which was created from a Teleplay written by King himself and which was a more accurate depiction of Kings original novel.
Now Tracking Board is reporting that Akiva Goldsman has been tasked with adapting Doctor Sleep, the 2013 sequel to King’s the for the big screen for Warner Bros. Pictures, with producers Jon Berg and Jon Gonda.  Currently, there is no director attached to the project, nor does WB have a release date.  Goldsman, who picked up his Oscar for penning his frequent collaborator/director Ron Howard’s John Nash biopic A Beautiful Mind, has a vast body of genre screenwriting work having worked on everything from ’90s superhero movies (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) to post-apocalyptic thrillers (I Am Legend, The Divergent Series: Insurgent) and Dan Brown mystery/thriller book adaptations (The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons).

new upcoming Predator film details inside….

Shane Black, who co-starred as Hawkins in the original 1987 Predator had easily one of the best dialogue lines in the entire film, hell in the entire film series when he joked with Sonny Lamhand about the “echo” of his girlfriends deep/big pussy.hqdefault
Since then he has mostly appeared in films in minor roles but has instead made a very successful career as a hollywood writer and director, scripting such 1980s classics as Leathal Weapon one and two, The Monster Squad, an more recently as writer and director of Iron Man 3 and is now looking to return to the Predator franchise as writer and director of the upcoming film “The Predator” which is scheduled for a 2018 release.  Black has said in recent reviews that he plans for the new Predator film to be a “big event”  movie, similar to Iron Man 3 and hoping to breath new energy and life into the lagging franchise.
According to Black, 20th Century Fox convinced him to take charge of the Predator franchise movie forward, even though he freely admitted to not having been overly impressed with certain previous installments in the series (the Alien vs. Predator movies, in particular):
They called me and I was reluctant. I said, “Look. You guys at Fox, I mean, I enjoy these movies, but we’ve been churning out these AVP whatever, they each cost a certain amount of money, they’re okay, but there’s no effort to elevate them or make them any kind of an event.” They’re just sort of another Predator. “Oh, there’s another one that came out.” They said, “What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for.” I said, “Really, you’ll spend a bunch of money?” They go, “Yep.” I go, “Make it really scale, spectacle?” “Yep.” “S***, that sounds interesting.”predator-movie-shane-black1
I think the first one was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was. I think there’s an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator. I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that… they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie. I said, “Let’s really do it right this time.”Arnold-Schwarzenegger-in-Predator
During the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio, the action icon original star Arnold Swartzennager broke the news, revealing to The Arnold Fans that he’s going to have a meeting with Black soon about the new film:
“I haven’t talked with him (Shane Black) yet but I’m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon. Just as soon as I’m finished with this (Arnold’s Sports Festival) and The Apprentice and all this stuff. But I will get together with him. If there is any news, we’ll of course let you know right away. There’s also a meeting coming up soon about Conan, about the project moving forward.”
The Predator is scheduled for release on March 2, 2018

the Mummy reboot will star Tom Cruise

mummy-reboot-2016-tom-cruiseThe Mummy will serve as the starting point for Universal’s relaunch of its monster film universe, with Alex Kurtzman (co-writer of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness) and Fast & Furious writer/producer Chris Morgan working together as the architects for the studio’s rebooted monster cinematic universe. Kurtzman is also directing this new Mummy series installment based on a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (co-writer of Prometheus and the upcoming Doctor Strange); and most recently, Tom Cruise reportedly entered negations to play the (non-mummy) lead in the film.

Reports are now in, stating that Cruise has closed his deal to headline Universal’s Mummy film reboot as (supposedly) an ex-Navy SEAL, with Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Sofia Boutella onboard to play the eponymous monster. Production on the project is still expected to begin early this spring, though Universal has now shifted The Mummy‘s release date – clearly, in response to moves that other studios have made with the release dates for their own 2017 tentpoles.

Variety is reporting that Universal has moved The Mummy from March 24th, 2017 to June 9th of that same year, now that Cruise is “officially” signed on. The move comes on the heels of Disney/Lucasfilm having moved Star Wars: Episode VIII away from late May to December of the same year (with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales now in Episode VIII‘s former spot); in addition, Paramount has dropped the Terminator: Genisys sequel from its official release docket, which has likewise reduced the competition that The Mummy will face in early June 2017. The Divergent Series: Ascendent and World War Z 2 are currently scheduled to arrive on the same date as The Mummy – but since the WWZ sequel only just lost its director (at the time of writing this) odds are it will ultimately be delayed from its current date.

Saw 8 coming soon…?

The Tracking Board is reporting Lionsgate has brought in Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, Piranha 3D) to pen the eighth installment of the horror franchise, titled Saw: Legacy. Details on the storyline – whether it will be a continuation, a reboot, or a prequel – are currently unclear, but Wan and Whannell will serve as executive producers on the film.
Of the seven films, Wan only directed the first, though he worked with Whannell on the story for both Saw and Saw III – with Whannell also writing the script for Saw II. Both remained involved in the franchise as executive producers, but went on to re-team for the Insidious series while Wan also helmed The Conjuring. Wan returned to the latter series for The Conjuring 2, which will hit theaters later this year, and is slated to direct the DC Extended Universe’s Aquaman film thereafter.

Posted on March 22, 2016 by admin in Horror movies, tv news FacebookTwitterRedditStumbleUponTumblrPinterestDeliciousFlipboardDiggShare american-horror-story-hotel-clipsIn a recent interview with TVLine showrunner Ryan Murphy gave up some details of what is to come in the next season of the cult anthology series American Horror Story… “The interesting thing about this season is we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done. So I don’t want to say what it maybe is…. Both things that we’re writing right now – we haven’t declared a winner – will have a different form, so we’re excited about that. We’ll talk about it soon, but we haven’t landed on it yet.” Murphy also hinted that both of his considered concepts revolve around a theme he has touched upon before – creepy children: “If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying,” As proven in my recent article on the horror movie sub-genre of KILLER KIDS the subject of homicidal children has been both a unholy fun to some or shock and distasteful to others. American Horror Story season 6 is expected to air in the fall of 2016.
ring-3-rings-movie-release-date-2016I love horror movies, especially those which revolve around malevolent supernatural ghost characters.  I loved the Ring, and while the sequel was a bit underwhelming and stretched the boundaries of the vengeful Samara it still had its moments.  But i will confess I actually liked the short film Rings which unfortunately was only made available as an extra included with the re-release of the original american remake DVD.  Only 14 minutes long it is a masterpiece of strategic minimalist film making.  Not only does it directly the “seven days” before the opening scene in Ring 2 it gives more of a backstory to the events leading up to the first ten minutes of Ring 2 but also opens a whole new and surprising world into which the Ring films exist.  It portrays the Ring as a non-fiction device which has spread and become a social media experiment, a group of kids who share their experiences after watching the haunted VHS tape and obsessed with documenting everything, almost a right passage in a sense  finding out how long they can document their lives and experiences which become consistently more and more bizarre and dreadful.  After watching they have a “buddy system” wherein as the seventh day get closer and  the visions of Samara become too frightening “…no one has gotten farther than five days”  Their “buddy” is up next to watch and try to get to document the “seventh day”  I wont sat any more but check out the clip at the bottom of the post.Wait a minute wasn’t this post about the upcoming Ring 3??  Yes you are correct, thanks for reminding me I was rambling…I digress, the Ring 3 (ironically also titled Rings…see there was a point to my rambling after all), was originally scheduled to be in theatres last November 2015 and then the release date was to have been nest month, April 2016 but now it will not hit theaters until October 28th this year instead.

The new film from director F. Javier GutiĆ©rrez will feature a story centered around present-day events, picking up in real-time after Verbinski’s first installment in the American Ring movie series. The movie will feature an all new collection of characters, as portrayed by the likes of Matilda Lutz (Somewhere Beautiful), Alex Roe (The 5th Wave), and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory).

Stephen King’s the Stand movie “on hold”

MV5BMTI3MDYzMDczOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDI2MDU1MQ@@._V1_SX640_SY720_The history of the long twisted history of the attempts of numerous false starts in adapting one of Stephen King’s the Stand, one of his largest books has been almost long and difficult as the book itself . The list of directors took on and then departed the project, is a numberous the most recent being Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) who stepped up to the helm in February 2014. At the time, Boone planned to make a three hour, R-rated movie with an A-list cast. This gradually evolved; becoming four movies, then a TV series with a movie finale. At the start of February, 2016, Warner Bros. Pictures’ option on The Stand rights expired, and so now it rests back at CBS Films, which must decide whether to make the movie with another studio… or fund it alone.According to producer Roy Lee, while The Stand movie still in the works, the creative team behind the project are once again looking at how best to tackle the adaptation. Speaking to Collider at DICE 2016, Lee confirmed recent reports that Boone will work on another King adaptation, Revival, first, before making any decisions on the future of The Stand.

“Right now it’s just in a holding pattern trying to figure out how to best make the movie because we’ve toyed with breaking it up into multiple movies, making it into one, making it into two. The latest draft, Josh Boone had written it and he was very anxious to make it but since then has written another script, Revival, which he’s gonna do beforehand, so we’re just waiting for that.”stephen king revival book cover

Ideally the Stand must either be made into multiple films, like Harry Potter, or even (another)  TV mini-series, similar to that which aired in 1994. Boone seemed on board with both ideas in June, 2015, saying that he would develop the work as an 8-part mini series; one that would then culminate in a feature film finale. Now, however, Lee revealed that plan is shelved due the logistics of the worldwide movie release.

“The TV component would not necessarily be released at the same time worldwide. So it became a logistic nightmare to try to figure that out, so that plan was abandoned.”

Lee also added that King still feels as though the original mini-series was a faithful adaptation of his book, so that might also be a factor in Boone deciding against going down the TV route. This I personally agree with, the 1994 miniseries was just fine, between that and the 2008-2012 comic book series based on the unabridged edition of the book,  the story has been told no reason to do it again, then again I was never really a fan of the book to begin with and I am much more excited at the upcoming adaption of Kings more recent novel Revival which is currently in the writing and pre production stage.
